From “Same Pain” — words by QuanZoRelly, word for word.
the story
QuanZoRelly is a melodic trap and pain-rap artist out of Norfolk, Virginia — half-sung, half-rapped, all the way honest. His pen is dense with punchlines and internal rhymes, but the engine underneath is real life: he lost his mother at six years old, and that loss runs through everything he writes.
Two names sit at the heart of everything he makes. His mother, Lashawn Trenise Alston Dunn, died when he was six years old. His son, Jaiden Lashawn Alston, was stillborn while QuanZoRelly was still in the 12th grade. He carries both of them into every record — they are who he builds for, and Same Pain is their story as much as his.
The sound is dark piano, hard-hitting 808s, and a confessional delivery that flips from soulful singing to a drill-attack flow without warning. His signature ad-lib — a soulful “Oooue eeeh” — is the sound of somebody who felt all of it and kept going anyway. Diamonds on him water-wet: that's aquarium.
In October 2026 he took his run to the Orbiit Timbaland Search Contest and climbed to the top of his Wild Card group before finishing 3rd when the votes closed. Weeks later, his nine-track album Same Pain was submitted for worldwide release — his words, his voice, his story, with every song registered to him as a BMI songwriter.

in his own words

It's my way of talking even if no one is listening. My music Is original through my versatility and lyrical substance. Im into real music you can feel.
Im Not A Rapper I'm an Artist !!

This is the part that made the music — the names, the losses, all of it true, all of it carried. Everything on this page is built on it. Read it slow.
the legacy
Same Pain didn't come from nowhere. Years before the album, QuanZoRelly was already winning contests, dropping hosted mixtapes, and getting on the radio in the 757. This is that run — the receipts.
On June 15, 2013, QuanZoRelly won the Re-Up Rap Contest at the Attucks Theatre in Norfolk, Virginia. The contest was hosted by No Malice, Bink! and Fam-Lay — an anti-violence initiative covered by WTKR news.
His first mixtape, The Advocate, was hosted by DJ Jack of Spade and presented by MCM Agency. He followed it with The Time Is Now, hosted by DJ Knight ATL.
The run reached the radio: QuanZoRelly was on-air at 103 Jamz in Norfolk.
Under MCM Agency, manager Steven McArthur shopped his beats and moved the operation to Atlanta. QuanZoRelly left with $100 to his name — he quit his job, left his car, and bet everything on the music.
Credit where it's due: Mr. Steven McArthur believed in him after the Re-Up win, and he pushed him hard. He introduced QuanZoRelly to the studio and kept him working like clockwork — a task every week, two songs a week — and that grind is what produced The Advocate and The Time Is Now. The Advocate moved hand-to-hand on CDs, and the donations it brought in paid for the studio time and the videos. And before QuanZoRelly understood the first thing about the business, Steven was already teaching him how to brand himself — lessons that stayed imprinted in his head long after that era ended.
“He was more than a manager to me. We were partners.”
— QuanZoRelly, on Mr. Steven McArthur
Steven's belief in QuanZoRelly didn't come from nowhere — the man carried a story of his own. Steven Brown McArthur played football for the Lake Taylor Titans in Norfolk. On September 14, 1982, his teammate Al Hatchett — number 77 — was killed in a car accident, and the Titans opened that season 0-2-1, playing through grief.
Then the school and the whole district bonded behind them, and the Titans turned it all the way around — winning the Eastern District and Eastern Regional championships, the first in the school's history, and finishing as state runner-up with a 9-3-2 record.
Nearly forty years later, Steven told that story himself: he wrote, directed, and produced the documentary Titans 82: Miracle Season through his MCM Agency — a story of tragedy, perseverance, and triumph that became a Virginian-Pilot cover story in 2021.
The man who believed in QuanZoRelly knew loss, perseverance, and triumph firsthand — he had lived all three long before he ever heard a QuanZoRelly record. He saw that same fire in him because he had carried it himself.
That bet is still paying out. The pain was real then, too — he just learned how to sing it.
